About the Military Ombud

Welcome to the Office of the Military Ombud. We pride ourselves in advancing excellent democratic oversight, review of maladministration and good governance over the South African National Defence Forces.

The Office of the Military Ombud was established on 14 May 2012 under the Military Ombud Act 4 of 2012. We resolve written complaints from the current serving members of the SANDF, former members of the SANDF and the complaints from the public regarding the official conduct of the SANDF members.

The Office is a neutral complaints watchdog and does not take the side of the employee or the employer. It is also our conviction to ensure that the fundamental human rights of our armed forces and the public are respected through peaceful mediation and alternative dispute resolution in an efficient, non-adversarial and expeditious manner.

The Military Ombud is Lt Gen (Ret) V.R. Masondo and is closely supported by a Deputy Military Ombud, a role held by Advocate S.T.B. Damane-Mkosana.
